Here is the “Daily Roundup,” Friars fans:
- Jason Mastrodonato of MLB.com provided a preview of the upcoming series between the Padres and the Rockies. San Diego will send Edinson Volquez to the mound while the Rockies will counter with Jhoulys Chacin. Game one of the three-game series begins at 5:40 PM PT this evening.
- The Padres have been pretty pathetic when it has come to hitting with runners in scoring position as of late, and many people like myself have started to notice. Bill Center of the San Diego Union-Tribune has also become aware of San Diego’s struggles in that particular area, and Center wrote a terrific article on that very subject. In the article, Center mentioned that the Padres have gone 3-50 with runners in scoring position over their last five games. Worst of all, Center pointed out that San Diego’s hitters have not produced a run-scoring hit (other than a home run) over their last 43 innings!
- With Carlos Quentin and Kyle Blanks on the disabled list, the Padres need some help in left field. One player who could provide some is rookie Jaff Decker. Jeremy Warnemuende of MLB.com discussed how manager Bud Black is open to playing the rookie down the stretch. The next month and a half could prove to be a very valuable opportunity for Decker, and I am definitely interested to see how he performs when his number is called.
