Here is the “Daily Roundup,” Friars fans:
- We all knew that Andrew Cashner could do a solid job on the mound before this season began. What most of us did not know is that the “fire-baller” is quite competent with the bat as well. Dennis Lin of the San Diego Union-Tribune wrote a great piece on Cashner and how much he has improved as a hitter. A terrific athlete, Cashner was hitting .303 (10 for 33) heading into yesterday’s start.
- The Union-Tribune’s “Padres Twitter Page” also reported some injury news. Outfielder Kyle Blanks, who is nursing an Achilles injury, will begin running in Colorado next week.
- Jack Clark, whose tumultuous tenure in San Diego only lasted two years (1989-1990), had some less than flattering things to say about Albert Pujols and Justin Verlander in a radio show of his in St. Louis. Clark, who was piggy-backing off of a statement made by his radio partner Kevin Slaten, said that Pujols was “a juicer.” In addition to those PED claims, Clark directed accusations towards Verlander and Shawn Green too according to Ryan Fagan of The Sporting News.
