Here is the “Daily Roundup,” Friars fans:
- Jesse Spector of “The Sporting News” discussed the impact that reliever Joe Thatcher could have on the Arizona Diamondbacks as they gear up for a postseason run. Thatcher, who was traded by the Padres to the Diamondbacks last week, has been replaced as the bullpen’s “LOOGY” by Colt Hynes.
- Once thought to be a formidable “One-Two Punch” in the Yankees’ starting rotation, Wallace Matthews of ESPN New York wrote a terrific piece on Ian Kennedy and Phil Hughes before they faced each other on Sunday afternoon. Both players have not exactly pan-out in the fashion New York’s brass wanted them to, yet both have had their moments as solid starters over the last half-decade.
- Health more than anything has been Carlos Quentin’s biggest enemy at the professional level. Unfortunately for the left fielder, his right knee is giving him issues once again according to Corey Brock and Jamal Collier of Padres.com.
