Here is the “Daily Roundup,” Friars fans:
- If it wasn’t for bad luck, Kyle Blanks would have no luck at all. The talented but oft-injured outfielder who was in the midst of a career year in 2013 is in the news again for his stint on the disabled list. Although Blanks is eligible to come off of the disabled list this Saturday for the Padres, the outfielder will likely have to wait longer to make his return due to his Achilles tendinitis according to Corey Brock of Padres.com.
- In addition to the news about Blanks, Brock discussed how much of a pleasant surprise that Nick Vincent has been during the last season and a half. Vincent has been one of the Friars’ most consistent relief pitchers this season, and has also been one of the best middle relief pitchers in baseball to boot. Entering yesterday’s game, Vincent had posted a 4-1 record and a 1.37 ERA over 45 career appearances during the 2012 and 2013 seasons.
- The Texas Rangers are in the market for some outfield depth, and they are apparently interested in one Padre in particular: Chris Denorfia. Tim Dierkes of MLB Trade Rumors (via Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports) reported that the Rangers have inquired about “Deno,” but the Padres appear unwilling to deal them.
