Here is the “Daily Roundup,” Friars fans:
- Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports reported that four out of the five teams in the National League West (Giants, Dodgers, Rockies, and Padres) are interested in pursuing pitcher Ricky Nolasco. Rosenthal also confirmed a previous tweet by Peter Gammons when he mentioned that the Friars are showing interest in Matt Garza. (Assist by Tim Dierks of MLB Trade Rumors)
- A.J. Cassavell of MLB.com wrote a terrific piece on how the Padres and Blue Jays have become contenders after both teams battled back from sub-par starts.
- If you haven’t already, head over to SB Nation’s “Gaslamp Ball” and read TheThinGwynn’s recent post on the “Gary Sheffield to Florida” trade that happened twenty years ago this week. As we all remember, the trade netted the Friars Trevor Hoffman. Yet the trade itself was just one of the franchise’s heart-wrenching early-90’s fire-sales.
- Dayn Perry of CBS Sports.com’s “Eye on Baseball” took a look at the National League West’s “Top 10 Pitchers” and “Top 10 Position Players.”
