The Padres released six Minor Leaguers today (March 23), among the six is Kyung-Min Na, according to MLBTraderumors.com
If Na’s name sounds familiar it is because he was the other player acquired by the Padres in the Anthony Rizzo–Andrew Cashner trade.
Na wasn’t traded directly for Rizzo, that was Cashner; 20-year-old right-hander Zach Cates was the one swapped for Na.
Na, a 21-year-old Korean born outfielder, had a woeful.209/.277/.233 slash line in 30 games played at Double-A San Antonio. He also appeared in three games with Triple-A Tucson
Cates was drafted by the Padres in the third round of the 2010 MLB Draft.
Cates struggled mightily last year in the Cubs’ organization. .
The other minor leaguers who were released today are pitchers Mark Pope, Chris Haney and Michael Broadway, and outfielder Anthony Renteria.
I know it sounds cheesy, but I must say it. The Padres today are telling Kyung-Min Na, Na Na Na Na Na Na Na Hey Hey Hey Hey Good Bye.
