Padres Get an F Against the A’s, Drop Opener

The Padres strolled into the Bay Area riding a season-high three-game winning streak, with a chance to make it four. Those hopes were dashed quickly, as Oakland scored five runs in the first inning, to cruise to a 10-2 win over San Diego.

The Padres jumped out to a quick 1-0, on an RBI single by Carlos Quentin. The good vibes for the hometown nine stopped there.

Oakland jumped out in the first, scoring 5 runs off of Padres Anthony Bass. A’s outfielder Josh Reddick smacked a two-run triple, and Brandon Moss capped the inning off with a two-run shot, his sixth of the year.

It was another rough outing for Bass, as he took the loss, giving up 7 earned runs in 5.1 innings. Bass has given up 26 earned runs in his last 26.1 innings.

The Padres could only muster 5 hits off of A’s starter Travis Blackley. Blackley, who hails from Australia, got his first big-league win since 2004, when he was a member of the Seattle Mariners, and Lindsay Lohan was still hot.

Former Padre Evan Scribner pitched the final three innings to pick up his first ML hit. He gave up just one walk and 0 hits.

The Padres will go for redemption on Saturday, as Ross Ohlendorf will make his first start as a Padre. The game will be an afternoon tilt, starting at 1:05 pm.
