Jed Hoyer vs. Josh Byrnes

facebooktwitterreddit

Josh Byrnes officially replaced Jed Hoyer as General Manager of the San Diego Padres on Halloween of 2011,  after Hoyer booked it for his dream gig to be general manager of the cursed  Chicago Cubs.

When I first heard of Hoyer’s departure it made me angry. I thought Hoyer sold out. It  made me think that everything Hoyer built in San Diego was always intended to be a stepping stone to better and bigger things. I had actually bought into the whole Hoyer philosophy of developing the farm system, which I felt he did a great job at. When Byrnes became general manger of the Padres, I was nervous to see if the organization would suffer a major set back as far as player development was concerned.

However, I got to say Byrnes has made quite an impression on me with his blockbuster trades style. Both GM’s have been busy this off season with Byrnes trading the likes of Mat Latos and acquiring Carlos Quentin. While Hoyer has traded away Cubs ace Carlos Zambrano and acquired young stud Travis Wood.

Here is a run down of the moves both Hoyer and Byrnes have made this off season. I know the Cubs and Padres are two different teams playing in two different divisions with two different roster needs, but tell me in the comments box who made the biggest splash this offseason? Also, do you think Hoyer would have made the same deals as Byrnes if he were still the Padres GM and was dealt the same cards as Byrnes? Let me know in the comment box.
