After coming off of a successful road trip, going 4-2 during the trip, the team returns to the “friendly” confines of PETCO Park today to face the Houston Astros. The next 11 games will be at home and the team needs to figure out the mystery of PETCO. We hold a 9-20 record at home and a 15-12 record away.
The teams that are coming into town (Houston Astros, Colorado Rockies, and Washington Nationals) during this 11-game home stand all have a record below .500. This will be a good time for them to turn their season around! If they do really well during this stint at home, they can shoot up the standings in the NL West and jump right back into the competition.
Ryan Ludwick will need to bring that hot bat home and set the tone for the team. Luddy batted .314 with 4 HR and 23 RBI in the month of May and he has batted .313 with 4 HR and 22 RBI on the road. His home numbers are far less impressive, batting .194 with 4 HR and 13 RBI. If he is able to get comfortable at home, then he should be able to help spark the team’s offense.
As a team, we have been horrible at home! At home the team is batting below the Mendoza line at .199 and has scored 65 runs, while on the road we are batting .261 with 125 runs. That just will not get the job done.
Hopefully the team figures it out and gets this thing rolling!
