Friars Sign Frandsen and Quiroz

The Padres signed utility player Kevin Frandsen and catcher Guillermo Quiroz to minor league contracts and both players will compete for a spot on the roster during spring training.

Frandsen will compete for a utility bench spot on the roster. His main position is 2B, but he is able to play SS, 3B and the OF. He spent 4 seasons with the San Francisco Giants and last season with the Anaheim Angels.

Quiroz will compete with newly acquired catcher Rob Johnson for the backup role behind Nick Hundley.
