Padres Trade for Backup Catcher

The San Diego Padres acquired their backup catcher today by trading for Seattle Mariners C Rob Johnson for a PTBNL or cash considerations.

Johnson will be the backup catcher behind Nick Hundley. Johnson is a career .200 hitter with 5 HRs and 42 RBI.

His career minor league numbers are not that impressive either. Nick Hundley has a hold of the starting job and should get a lot of playing time.

The Padres have now filled the backup catcher role and are still looking for that starting 1B option.
