Second-round pick Jedd Gyorko is adjusting to pro ball just fine.
He went 0-for-4 in his first game on Friday, but then went 2-for-4 Saturday and 4-for-4 Sunday. Gyorko has only one strikeout in 12 at-bats, and he’s ripped two doubles in his six hits.
Playing at third base for short-season Eugene, the stocky former West Virginia shortstop is making a quick case for a promotion to Fort Wayne.
Not to make too much out of three games, but I think Gyorko looks poised to show why it’s so helpful to a player to sign early. If he gets to Fort Wayne quickly, he’ll probably be able to start 2011, his first full pro season, in Lake Elsinore while many of his fellow 2010 draftees will simply be making their pro debuts, some perhaps stuck even in extended spring.
These results are about as encouraging as they could be, three games in.
