Padres Select HS LHP D.J. Snelten in 30th Round of 2010 MLB Draft

The final pick of the Padres’ Day 2 also may be the biggest.
High school lefty D.J. Snelten, just 18 years of age, is a towering 6’6″ lefty who offers a physical presence on the mound.
Snelten is an Illinois high schooler with a Minnesota commitment.
Snelten has pretty solid stuff, throwing a low-90’s fastball and two solid offspeed offerings in his slider and changeup.
He has very solid command as well, and looks like he could be a solid starter.
Snelten certainly is a better-than-30th-round talent, so he’s not going to sign for $1,000 or anything near that low. He’ll need quite a bit to sway him from Minnesota, which probably has quite a bit to do with him slipping this far.
Still, you can’t help but take a guy with this sort of size and stuff this late if he’s still on the board.
