The High-A Lake Elsinore Storm have activated righthander Jackson Quezada from the disabled list.
Quezada hasn’t pitched since 2008 due to injury, but in 2008, he was dominant in Low-A, posting a 79/19 K/BB ratio in 63 2/3 innings and allowing just one home run.
Quezada, 23, remains a promising relief prospect with a 91-95 mph fastball and wipeout slider. He also has a usable changeup.
To open a spot on the roster, the Storm promoted lefty Colt Hynes to Double-A San Antonio.
Hynes, 24, had a 3.38 ERA in 5 1/3 innings for Lake Elsinore this year after posting a 2.90 ERA in 59 innings there last year. Impressively, he did not allow a home run last year in those 59 innings despite the Cal League’s hitter-friendliness.
Hynes is a soft-tosser with a low arm angle that makes him tough on lefties and makes his mid-80’s fastball tough to lift. He lacks a plus offspeed pitch, however, and he’s old for the Cal League. He’ll need to continue to work on his slider and changeup to have much of a major league future.
Hynes will become the thirteenth pitcher on the Missions’ staff.
