With the 2025 MLB All-Star Game approaching, it's once again time to reflect on some of the San Diego Padres' history during All-Star Weekend. The Friars are sending stars Manny Machado and Fernando Tatis Jr. to the All-Star Game, as well as first-timer Jason Adam and two other relievers in Robert Suarez and Adrian Morejon.
Before the Midsummer Classic, the Home Run Derby will take place on Monday night in Atlanta. No Padres are participating in this year's derby, but let's have a look at some of the best and worst performances in Padres' Home Run Derby history.
Padres' Wil Myers and Steve Garvey gave San Diego memorable HR Derby efforts
Wil Myers is the most recent Padre to partake in the Home Run Derby, which he did back in 2016 at Petco Park. Myers did not win, but he muscled a franchise-best 10 home runs in the derby.
Myers was knocked out by Adam Duvall, who hit 11 home runs in the opening round. Myers gave a strong effort, but his most iconic moment in front his home crowd came when his brother, Beau hit him with a pitch during his round.

Giancarlo Stanton wound up winning the Home Run Derby in 2016.
As for Garvey, he was part of the first-ever Home Run Derby in 1985, which was in Minnesota. He wasn't asked to participate in the derby until the morning of the event, but he still managed to hit a pair of home runs in a five-out format. The late Dave Parker won the Home Run Derby.
Padres' Gary Sheffield, Fred McGriff, Adrian Gonzalez had forgettable HR Derby experiences
In 1992, both Gary Sheffield and Fred McGriff swung in the Home Run Derby, each representing the Padres. The event was at Jack Murphy Stadium in San Diego, and both sluggers failed to impress.
Sheffield hit four home runs, and McGriff added three. Mark McGwire won the event with a record-breaking 12 bombs.

The Padres did not have a Home Run derby participant for another 17 years. Adrian Gonzalez accepted the invite in 2009 at Busch Stadium, and he finished second-to-last in the entire derby with two home runs.
Prince Fielder was victorious in 2009, which was his first of two Home Run Derby crowns.
