Before yesterday’s series finale with the Los Angeles Angels, San Diego Padres manager Bud Black said that right-handed starting pitcher, Brandon Morrow, will throw a three inning simulated game Thursday afternoon – aiming for around 45 pitches.

Thanks to our friend Bill Center of Padres.com for the details:

"If he comes out of the simulated start OK, he’ll have a rehab game five days laterIf he gets to 60 or 70 pitches in his rehab start, possibly he’ll return (to the Padres rotation) if we feel that’s enough to start him. And we’ll have to see where our bullpen is . . . or whether he makes a second rehab start for pitch count and build his shoulder up.– Bud Black"

Before Morrow went on the DL on May 3rd with inflammation in his right shoulder, he was off to a pretty good start. In his five starts he gained a 2-0 record with a 2.73 ERA.

It was a much better start than a lot of us at friarsonbase.com thought he would have, considering his rather uninspired Spring Training performance which saw him competing with Odrisamer Despaigne for the final starting spot. Morrow eventually got the job and showed us all what he could really do.

We’re all hoping Morrow’s recap goes well today and that he’ll be back on the mound soon. Check in with us later today on all updates on Brandon Morrow.
