The San Diego Padres are the class of Major League Baseball when it comes to honoring the men and women of the United States Armed Forces. Every Sunday home game the Padres wear the best uniforms in baseball, their camouflage jerseys. A lot of teams have adopted this but the Padres were the first ones to wear them as part of their annual scheduled uniforms.

Each of these games also highlights a part of the military that the Padres celebrate. Each branch of the military has their own Sunday dedicated to highlighting and honoring the service that branch has rendered throughout history. There are also Sundays dedicated to the families and spouses of military members.

Baseball may be America’s pastime but the courage and sacrifice of these military members is unparalleled and should be a subject of sacredness and reverence and nothing can compare. San Diego is a proud military town with so many brave men and women scattered throughout the region.

Let us take time today on Memorial Day and throughout the year to thank our veterans. Go out of your way to thank them for their service personally. Whether they are in the National Guard, Reserves or deployed abroad in any branch of the military, thank them not just today, but always.

Thank you to all who make our borders safe. We thank those who sacrifice and have sacrificed so much to keep this country free.
