Now, that’s more like it. After last night’s embarrassing one hit performance, the San Diego Padres offense finally showed up in a big way.

James Shields had another solid outing and got the run support our other starting pitchers have been needing to get his sixth win of the season (6-0). The Padres’ offense accumulated 11 runs on 20 hits.

The runs started right away with a Justin Upton grand slam in the first:

By the fifth inning the Padres were up 10-0 and the game was so well in hand even Shawn Kelly couldn’t blow it. In a rare sight, ever Padres batter got at least one hit in today’s game.

It’s nice to get a victory like this after a string of tough defeats to the Chicago Cubs and Dodgers this week. Hopefully this will spark the Padres offense again, but things aren’t going to get easier. The Padres only need a quick trip south for a series with the Los Angeles Angels next.
