Padres News: Trevor Hoffman Adjusting To New Role

Trevor Hoffman has done everything for the Padres. All-Star closer. Leader. Hall of fame candidate. Broadcaster. Upper level pitching coordinator. Now Hoffman finds himself in a new role. Senior Advisor for Baseball Ops.

Here’s what GM AJ Preller told UT-San Diego:

"“Hoffy’s going to go up and down throughout the system and impact a lot of guys and not just have a narrower focus,” Padres General Manager A.J. Preller said earlier this month. “He’ll have an impact beginning from the time guys get into the organization to when guys get into the big leagues.“What Trevor brings is incredibly unique. We want to have as many people as possible able to pick his brain and be around him.”"

Hoffman will have former Padre Mark Prior, Eric Junge and Gorman Heimuller working underneath him as well working with the pitchers.

It’s great that A.J. Preller kept Hoffman in the organization and even gave him a bump up in title. Keeping former players, especially ones that may be possibly the best living player in their history is a great thing. Hoffman can share his expertise with the younger players and even give the vets a tip or two.

Hoffman could very well be on his way to an even bigger role down the road with club. If he can help guys like Matt Wisler and Casey Kelly develop it will even be a bigger boost.

Look for Hoffman to be all over camp and in the dugout this spring for the Padres.
