Why Today Is A Big Day For The Padres

Getting Matt Kemp was a big turning point for the San Diego Padres. It got them a big name and showed that A.J. Preller wasn’t messing around. Then A.J. went out and got Justin Upton, Wil Myers, Derek Norris and Will Middlebrooks in a flurry of deals. The Padres brought out Kemp and will introduce the rest in a big press conference today.

Kemp was like getting the one toy to start off your birthday and then you come home from a day out and found a bunch more toys.

The Padres had one of the worst offensive teams in recent memory last season and it needed upgrades. They certainly did that and more.

Today will be the first day you can get a look at Upton and Myers etc in Padres jerseys. You can start to see what they are like and envision them in Spring Training and Opening Day in three months.

The Padres showed they are for real and are ready to get back to the playoffs. Whether or not the moves actually work remains to be seen, and I’m not sure Preller is quite done yet.

Today though, you can look and see the first part of the plan of the new Padres.
