Three Padres Elect Free Agency

Three players (two pitchers and one hitter) who spent some time in the major leagues in 2014 have elected minor league free agency.

30 year old outfielder Jeff Franceour is one of them. Frenchy played in 10 games for the Padres at the major league level, hitting .083 with an RBI  in 28 plate appearances. Francoeur had pretty good numbers for AAA El Paso.  He had a .289/.320/.450 line with 15 homers and 69 RBI. He even pitched in seven games.

The other bat was infielder Chris Nelson. The 29 year old appeared in 27 games and hit .233 with 7 RBI. He hit .293 with two homers and 21 RBI in 24 games.

The pitcher was left-handed reliever Troy Patton. Patton was the main part of the trade that saw Nick Hundley go to the Baltimore Orioles. He appeared in eight games. posting a 2.45 ERA, striking out eight in 7.1 innings of work.

Look for each player to at least catch a minor league deal with someone this off-season as teams look to fill out their rosters and add some depth.
