Over the last month, it is has been long rumored that Padres outfielder Chris Denorfia was going to be traded before trade deadline, so it does not come as a shock that the 34-year old was dealt today.

It is confirmed by both Friarwire.com and Fox Sports: MLB that Denorfia was traded this morning to the Seattle Mariners for right-handed pitcher Stephen Kohlscheen and outfielder Abraham Almonte.

The right hander Kohlsheen jumped between the Mariners Double-A and Triple-A teams posting a 3-1 record with a 2.70 ERA an earned a spot on the Southern League All-Star team this season.

The switch hitter Almonte put up solid numbers at Triple-A Tacoma batting .267 with six homer and 3 triples. The Dominican born outfielder has seen some time at the big league level last year appearing in 25 games for the Mariners before being sent down for this season.

Denorfia was batting .242 with one homer and 16 RBI this season and was set to be a free agent this coming up off season. The Mariners acquisition of Denorfia adds an extra bat off the bench and a player who can play all three outfield positions.  Despite the Mariners being 11 games back in the AL West, they are only three games back from one of the two wildcard spots.
