As we baseball nerds wait for the Major Leagues to resume baseball; the Padres’ minor leagues affiliates have been busy playing games and keeping the national pastime alive. Last night all of the minor league affiliates were in action with mixed results with a combined record of 4-3.

Triple-A

The El Paso Chihuahuas defeated the Fresno Grizzlies 7-6.

Box Score

The Chihuahuas won yet another one-run victory last night. El Paso’s offense was spearheaded by LF Jonathan Galvez. Galvez scored 2 runs and had 4 RBI on the night including a 2-run home run in the 2nd innings. Galvez was a well deserving Pacific Coast League All-Star for El Paso. Galvez owns a slash line of .303/.365/.495 with 8 home runs, 34 RBI, and 2 stolen bases on the season. If the Padres end of trading the majority of their outfielders before the trade deadline I would expect Galvez to get called up to fill one of the open spots.

Tonight El Paso sends Jason Lane (5-7, 4.96 ERA) to the mound to face Fresno’s Jose De Paula (3-3, 4.15). First pitch is at 10:05 pm ET.

Double-A

The San Antonio Missions lost to the Midland RockHounds 6-5.

Box Score

Despite the loss, the Mission offense wasn’t completed anemic led by top prospect Rymer Liriano. Liriano, who missed all of 2013 due to Tommy John surgery, went 2-for-4 with a run scored, a double, and 2 RBI on the night. Liriano also stole his 16th stolen base of the year. Looks like he is fully recovered from missing all last season. Top prospect Hunter Renfroe also tallied to 2 RBI on a single in the top of the 4th inning. Renfroe has struggled a little at the plate since being promoted from Single-A Lake Elsinore. His slash line at the Double-A level is .224/.318/.414. He will need to make some adjustments before he will start seeing the same success he had early this season at the Single-A level.

Tonight San Antonio’s Josh Geer (5-8, 4.02 ERA) will face the Midland RockHounds. As of the publishing of this article the Midland RockHounds have yet to name their starter. First pitch is at 8:00 pm ET.

Single-A Advanced

The Lake Elsinore Storm defeated the Bakersfield Blaze 9-1.

Box Score

The Storm had a great night on both sides of the ball last night, beginning with starting pitcher Zach Eflin. Eflin earned his 9th win of the season pitching 6 strong innings allowing only 1 run on 7 hits and no walks while striking out 4. Eflin season ERA is now at 3.50. He has pitched very well this season and should be ready for Double-A next season.

On the offensive side of the ball, Diego Goris did not disappoint. Goris went 3-for-5 including a double while scoring 2 runs and having 4 RBI on the evening. Goris continues to have an absolute killer season since being names a California League All-Star; he owns a slash line of .323/.346/.515 with 13 home runs, 61 RBI, and 5 stolen bases on the seaon.

Tonight Lake Elsinore sends Colin Rea (7-5. 3.35 ERA) to the mound to face Bakersfield’s Mike Dennhardt (4-5, 4.89 ERA). First pitch is at 10:45 pm ET.

Turner went 2-for-4 scoring 2 runs including a walk and a triple, his first triple of his professional career at any level. Congrats Trea! Turners combined slash line on the season is .255/.344/.336, hopefully Turner will continue to progress and make adjustments so he can be ready for Single-A Advanced by the start of next season.

Class A: Short Season

The Eugene Emeralds lost to the Vancouver Canadians 11-9.

Box Score

Despite a horrible team performance on the pitching side of the ball, the offense kept the Emeralds in the game. Emerald RF Nick Torres went 2-for-5 with a double, a run scored, and 2 RBI. Since being drafted in the fourth of inning of the 2014 First-Year Player Draft, Torres has had a respectable season at the plate.
