I hope everyone is having a great 4th of July and enjoying this wonderful country that we live in. My favorite way to celebrate this wonderful holiday is to go to the ballpark and enjoy our national pastime. I may be bias, since I am a baseball writer, but I believe there is nothing more American than having a brew and brat during a baseball game, while enjoying the sunshine on the beautifully manicured field. Man, I LOVE BASEBALL. On that note, let’s take a look down on the farm.

Triple-A

Box Score

The El Paso Chihuahuas defeated the Albuquerque Isotopes 7-6.

Last night’s game was a team effort. Seven different players had an RBI, as the Chihuahuas pulled within four games of being .500 on the season. Chihuahuas CF Reymond Fuentes is still adjusting since being called up from Double-A. Fuentes has only mustered 5 hits in 26 AB since joining El Paso; however, with 5 walks his plate discipline is still there.

Tonight the Chihuahuas take on Salt Lake’s Caleb Clay (1-0, 3.09 ERA). As of the publishing of this article El Paso has yet to name a starter. First pitch is at 5:35 pm PDT.

Double-A

Box Score

The San Antonio Missions lost to the Tulsa Drillers 6-4.

Despite losing to the Drillers, the Chihuahuas had twice as many hits as Tulsa. Missions 2B Cory Spangenberg went 3-for-5 raising his average to .309 on the season. While 1B/LF Cody Overbeck also had 3 hits on the night, going 3-for-5 with an RBI. Top prospect Austin Hedges went 1-for-2 with an RBI and run scored.

Tonight the Missions send James Needy (5-3, 2.20 ERA) to the mound to face Tulsa’s Jon Gray (7-3, 3.76 ERA). First pitch is at 3:05 pm PDT.

Single-A Advanced

Box Score

The Lake Elsinore Storm defeated the Inland Empire 66ers 9-3.

Storm 2B Benji Gonzalez had a great night offensively. Gonzalez went 2-for-4 with a walk, 3 RBI, 2 runs scored, and a home run. Gonzalez own a slash line of .288/.368/.440 on the season. With Spangenberg and Gonzalez the middle infield looks very bright for the Padres.

Tonight the Storm send Joe Ross (8-4, 3.78 ERA) to the mound to face the High Desert’s David Holman (1-1. 3.97 ERA). First pitch is at 7:05 pm PDT.

Single-A Low

Box Score

The Fort Wayne TinCaps lost to the Dayton Dragons 3-1.

After a rocky first inning with 2 unearned runs, TinCaps starter Jeffery Enloe had a solid outing. Enloe pitched 5 innings only allowing the 2 unearned runs on 5 hits and 1 walk while striking out 3. In only 3 starts this season for Fort Wayne, Enloe owns a 1.13 ERA in 8 innings pitched.

Tonight Fort Wayne will face West Michigan’s Buck Farmer (7-5, 3.20 ERA). As of the publishing of this article Fort Wayne has yet to name a starter. First pitch is at 4:05 pm PDT.

Class-A: Rookie Short Season

Box Score

The Eugene Emeralds defeated the Spokane Indians 6-1.

Emerald 2B Jalen Goree and 3B Chase Jensen both went 2-for-4 on the night. Goree added to RBI to his great outing. First-Round pick Trea Turner went 0-for-4 with a walk and a strike out. With last night’s walk, Turner has reached base safely in his last 4 games.

Tonight the Emeralds send Griffin Russell (0-2, 5.91 ERA) to the mound to face Boise’s Joshua Conway (0-0, 2.08 ERA). First pitch is at 6:35 pm PDT.

Rookie: Dominican Summer League

Box Score

The DSL Padres lost to the DSL Orioles 13-6.

The DSL Padres pitching staff had a horrible 6th inning where they collectively allowed 10 runs. Offensively DSL Padres LF Ronaldo Contreras went 2-for-3 with 2 walks, an RBI, and 2 runs scored. Coming into the game Contreras only had 3 hits on the season, perhaps we will look back and say this was his breakout game.

The DSL Padres take on the DSL Orioles today; as of the publishing of this article neither team has named a starter.

Rookie: Arizona Fall League

Box Score

THE AZL Padres’ game last night against the AZL Cubs was suspended due to wind. When the game will be resumed had not been announced at the publishing of this article. The AZL Padres have tonight off.
