Following yesterday’s victory against the Chicago Cubs to cap off a celebration of the 1984 World Series team, the San Diego Padres’ head to the road on Memorial Day to open up a three-game series with NL division rival Arizona Diamondbacks.

Right-hander Tyson Ross (5-4, 2.64) squares off against the Diamondbacks Brandon McCarthy (1-6, 4.67). In his last start against the Minnesota Twins, Ross was excellent  allowing one run on three hits with eight strikeouts over seven innings, but the offense failed to put a run on the board. Ross has a career 1-1 record with a 2.57 ERA with 13 strikeouts at Chase Field

McCarthy has steadily improved since his 0-5 start. He took a no decision in his last start against the Cardinals and has an impressive 1.67 ERA in four career starts against the Padres.

Outfielder Carlos Quentin is expected to return to the Padres’ lineup tonight since straining his groin in the final game with the Colorado Rockies a week ago. Over the last two games, Quentin’s made impact as a pinch-hitter homering in Saturday’s game and delivering an RBI single yesterday.

The Padres offense is looking to bounce against one the leagues worst pitching staff after getting shutout twice on the home stand. First pitch is at 5:10 PDT.
