A cold rain storm couldn’t cool down the amazing season that Johnny Cueto is having. Cueto pitched his third complete game of the season improving his record to 4-2 while ending San Diego’s four game winning streak. Cueto held the Padres to 4 hits allowing 2 walks while striking out 8.

Cueto is pitching at historic levels in his 9 starts this season he has pitched 72 innings with a 1.25 ERA and a 0.73 WHIP while recording a major league leading 72 strikeouts.

San Diego’s Ian Kennedy did not have an outing to remember. He lasted 6 innings allowing 5 runs on 12 hits and 1 walk while striking out 4. The 5 runs allowed is a season high and Kennedy will spend his time between starts looking to recapture his form from two starts ago where he struck out 12.

The hot hitting Padre offense stalled after its rainy off day. The one bright spot was last week’s National Player of the Week Seth Smith going 1-for-2 with a walk, extending his hitting streak to 10 games.

Neither team will have to wait long to play the rubber game of the series. The second game of today’s doubleheader starts at 7:10 pm ET.

Keep the Faith.
