Padres Deal OF/1B Blanks To Oakland

The San Diego Padres have parted ways with outfielder/first baseman Kyle Blanks. According to Dennis Lin of the UT-San Diego, the team has sent Blanks, who was optioned recently back to Triple-A El Paso to the Oakland Athletics for outfielder Jake Goebbert and a player to be named later.


In 132 plate appearances for Triple-A Sacramento, Goebbert is hitting .257 with 6 home runs and 25 driven in. Blanks, who split time between El Paso and San Diego, hit .265 with 9 home runs and 20 runs batted in 99 plate appearances at El Paso. Best of luck to Kyle and thank you for your service to the Padres’ organization.

    I’m saddened it didn’t work out. I remember meeting him in AA San Diego many years ago and got his autograph and thought, “no doubt the future 1st baseman for the Friars.”

    Well it didn’t work out that way. And it SUCKS that he’s headed to Oakland, my least favorite team.

    Regardless, my best buddy got drafted by Oakland so despite the setting I wish him the best of luck.
