Well, the thing that everybody expected to happen finally did. Jedd Gyorko and his wife were expecting twins and today Gyorko was placed on the paternity leave list. Tommy Medica was recalled according to Darren Smith of 1090AM.

The 25-year-old second baseman has been struggling so far in 2014. He has a .144/.218/.211 line with just one homer and nine RBI so far. This weekend against the Nationals he went 3-for-16.

Medica, in just 28 at-bats this year, is hitting .143 with a homer and two runs driven in. He played in just two games for Triple-A EL Paso since being optioned, but hit a homer and drove in three in those two games.

Look for Alexi Amarista to start at second base until Gyorko gets back from leave with Jace Peterson at third base.

Congrats to Gyorko and his wife Karley on the birth of their twin sons.
