Winter Meetings Live Updates - Day 1

09 Dec 13 – 2007

Mark Prior could be heading to the Padres. No, not to pitch. He could be heading to the front office. He has given up on come back attempts. He seems to be a very intelligent guy. He would definitely be a nice asset to have in the front office.

09 Dec 13 – 1705

Our writer Noah Eli checked in to report that the Padres are talking to Scott Downs, according to Jon Morosi. Downs has a 2.49 ERA and 1.477 WHIP last year with the Angels and Braves. He is pretty dominant against lefties, which is what you would expect from a lefty. Hopefully Byrnes and Co. wine and dine him just right tonight. Two words: order pizza. Another two words: and beer.

09 Dec 13 – 1617

Get ready for some hot lefty reliever action sometime in the near future. Byrnes is quoted as saying “we’ve had productive discussions with lefty relievers.  Well past tire kicking stage.”

09 Dec 13 – 1615

Josh Byrnes is quoted by the Padres official Twitter as saying “we’re trying to take next step in 2014 and Chase is a part of that.” I’m really getting the feeling that the Padres will come to an agreement with Chase sometime in the next few months.

09 Dec 13 – 1549

The Angels appear to still be shopping Mark Trumbo and have spoken to the D-Backs about their young pitching. Hey! We have young pitching too!

09 Dec 13 – 1530

Bruce Levine tweets that the Dodgers and Rays may be getting close on a deal for David Price. Whatever.

09 Dec 13 – 0947

The Marlins have come to terms on a 2-year deal with OF/1B Garrett Jones. This seemingly makes Logan Morrison expendable. Would the Padres still be interested if they hadn’t traded for Seth Smith already? Probably.

09 Dec 13 – 0825

The Winter Meetings have started with a bang with the announcement of Joe Torre, Tony Larussa and Bobby Cox as Hall of Fame – Class of 2014 inductees.

09 Dec 13 – 0700

This post is for the continuous updates that should be pouring out of the GM Meetings all week. But, like someone else said, perhaps last week was as crazy as it was because all of the GM’s plan to just take their families to Disney. It remains to be seen what kind of moves Josh Byrnes and company have left to make. Keep it locked in here for all of your updates.
