This crazy off season is getting more crazy by the minute. The Yankees lose Robinson Cano to the Mariners? Dean Anna could battle Kelly Johnson to replace Cano. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a day with as many trades as the day that brought us the Gregerson-Smith deal. Man, I love baseball! The Winter Meetings start Monday, prepare for the insanity. Let’s take a look at what’s going on around the NL West this week.

D-Backs – Venom Strikes

It’s funny how different teams within the same Division always tend to target similar players. The guys at Venom Strikes have mentioned a few of our favorite potential targets in Mark Trumbo and Yoenis Cespedes. The Cespedes trade appears to have been more than just speculation. It came very close to being yet another trade involving the A’s during the craziest day of this past week.

Is there a chance that the D-Backs could pull off a huge trade during the Winter Meetings? Would the Padres fans survive the D-Backs pulling off something huge while we trade for a AAAA relief pitcher? Hopefully we don’t have to find out.

Rockies – Rox Pile

The Rockies traded Dexter Fowler to the Astros earlier this week. The Rockies fans seem pretty happy with the trade.

Jim Tracy on the other hand doesn’t sound to thrilled with the trade.

The Rockies also signed Justin Morneau. I wonder what it’s like for your team to sign a big free agent?

Dodgers – Lasorda’s Lair

The Lasorda’s Lair guys sound like they may be tired of Seattle Mariners and LA Dodgers trade rumors. I’m not sure the Mariners have any maneuverability now that they have signed Cano for $1 bagillion. Then again, they may need to trade the rest of the team now and call up the single-A guys.

The Dodgers lost Ronald Belisario from their bullpen. But, they added Brian Wilson. I think they’ll be ok.

Giants – Around the Foghorn

The biggest news coming out of Giants camp this week and really the only news was about the van full of Giants players that was hit in Arizona. Rivalries and hatred take a backseat when there is a potential life threatening situation like this. Initially reports were that four players were injured, one of them critically. Luckily, no one was seriously hurt. You may now resume hating the Giants.

That’s the news from this past week in the NL West. Stay tuned to FOB this week. The GM Winter Meetings start tomorrow and there’s a good chance it will get crazy!
