Jedd Gyorko was named the best rookie second baseman in the majors by Baseball Ameríca.  The article describes Gyorko as the fifth rookie second baseman in history to hit at least 20 home runs.  His offense was impressive, and so was his defense.  As the season progressed, it was apparent that the move from third to second suited Gyorko very well.  For further analysis of Jedd’s great rookie season, please see Victor Wang’s column.

With the ongoing speculation of what to do with Chase Headley, Wang notes that Gyorko would be a good choice to replace Headley at third.  The Padres could potentially fill second base with Cory Spangenberg, who has progressed nicely in the minors after being selected 10th overall by the Padres in the 2011 MLB Draft.
