Here is the “Daily Roundup,” Friars fans:
- Bill Center of the San Diego Union-Tribune shared his thoughts on some Padres who might be traded at the end of this month. Some of the players Center mentioned were Luke Gregerson, Edinson Volquez, Carlos Quentin, Chris Denorfia, Huston Street, and Chase Headley.
- Detroit’s interest in Luke Gregerson seems to be extremely real as the Tigers have reportedly sent scouts to watch San Diego’s relief pitcher (as well as Dale Thayer and Huston Street) recently according to James Schmel of MLive.com.
- Speaking of potential trade targets, apparently the Braves are interested in Joe Thatcher according to Jon Paul Morosi of Fox Sports. The left-handed reliever has been a steady contributor for the Friars over the last few seasons, so it comes as no surprise as to why a team in need of bullpen help with postseason aspirations like Atlanta would want to acquire him.
- Huston Street’s struggles were a big topic of conversation during the season’s first three months. San Diego’s All-Star closer from the 2012 campaign had his issues with control in addition to gopher-ball problems during April, May, and June of this year, and it looked like he might very well be replaced as the team’s every-day closer. Corey Brock of Padres.com wrote an article on the subject of Street and how his tweaked slider has led to more success as of late.
