Here is the “Daily Roundup,” Friars fans:

  • Things only continue to get worse for the Padres’ make-shift starting rotation.  According to Yahoo.com, veteran right-hander Jason Marquis could require Tommy John surgery to fix the ulnar collateral ligament damage he sustained in his right elbow.
  • With the trade deadline looming, many have jumped on the “Padres Are Selling” bandwagon.  Mike Axisa of CBS Sports reflected that sentiment in his most recent article.
  • In some positive prospect news, Keyvius Sampson was named the Texas League’s “Pitcher of the Week” for the month of June according to Corey Brock of Padres.com.  Sampson, who pitches for Double-A San Antonio, has been on an absolute tear since May 16 of this year.  The right-hander has posted a 7-1 record and a 2.27 ERA since mid-May, and he was even named the Padres’ “Minor League Pitcher of the month” for June.
