Earlier today, Corey Brock of Padres.com reported that Tom Garfinkel, the Padres’ President and CEO, resigned from his positions with the franchise.

According to a source familiar with Brock, Garfinkel’s resignation was part of  the transition of the franchise to the new Fowler-O’Malley-Seidler ownership group.  The move itself was representative of the franchise’s brass wanting to go in a different direction, and that there was no “acrimony” between Garfinkel and the new ownership group.

Garfinkel, the team’s president and COO since 2009, assumed the CEO position after former owner and CEO Jeff Moorad failed to buy the team last season.  With Garfinkel now leaving town, executive Ron Fowler will take over for him until a new replacement is hired according to ESPN.

Now that Garfinkel is gone, one has to wonder if members of the new ownership group have any more potential changes in mind to make in the front office or on the field over the coming months.

Readers: Are you happy that Garfinkel has resigned?  Upset?  Who will the new ownership group try to replace him in the future?
