Here is the “Daily Roundup,” Friars fans:

  • Corey Brock of Padres.com wrote a terrific article on the subject of Chris Denorfia yesterday.  Denorfia discussed how instrumental his coach at Wheaton College was in his development as a baseball player, and Wheaton’s coach Eric Padbelski shared some anecdotes about what a terrific player and person Denorfia was and is.
  • The Padres have been very busy signing international prospects over the course of the last week.  Today it was reported by Steve Adams of MLB Trade Rumors (via ESPN’s Jesse Sanchez) that San Diego’s brass inked Mayky Perez, a right-handed pitcher who is number nine on MLB.com’s “international prospects” list.  The 16 year-old contract included a $635,000 signing bonus.
  • In addition to Perez, the Friars also signed a Dominican outfielder by the name of Luis Asuncion to a deal as well.  According to Adams (via ESPN’s Jesse Sanchez),  Asuncion’s contract included a $350,000 signing bonus.
