I know that I can’t speak for all of you readers, but that last loss was sure tough to stomach for this Friar fan. Luke Gregerson melted down for the third time in as many weeks, and the bullpen looks like an enormous liability. Worst of all though is the fact that the team is now below .500 (39-40).
Anyway, here is today’s “Daily Roundup:”
- According to Tim Dierkes of MLB Trade Rumors, the Padres are interested in acquiring starting pitcher Ricky Nolasco from the Marlins. However, ESPN.com’s Jim Bowden tweeted that nothing is “close or imminent” between both clubs.
- Bad news Friars fans, Jedd Gyorko left a rehab game in Double-A last night due to tightness in his right leg according to Corey Brock and Jamal Collier of MLB.com. San Diego will need Gyorko in their lineup if they wish to make a postseason run, and any set-back would be extremely costly.
- Collier also reported that two members of the Padres’ minor league system were selected to play in the “MLB Futures Game” at Citi Field during the All-Star Break. The two players are Austin Hedges (catcher, Single-A) and Yeison Asencio (right fielder, Double-A), and the game is on July 14, 2013.
