The Padres made a minor move this afternoon, trading AAA infielder Vince Belnome to the Tampa Bay Rays, in exchange for left-handed pitcher Chris Rearick.

Belnome, 24, was 28th round pick by the Padres in 2009, out West Virginia University. He has played all over the infield in his minor league career and spent 2012 in Tucson, posting a triple-slash line of .275/.380/.384. For his career in the Padres system, he has an impressive OBP of .414 in almost 1600 plate appearances.

Rearick, 25, pitched at AA Montgomery and AAA Charlotte, posting a 4-4 record, with a 2.70 ERA in 50 games. Rearick has pitched exclusively out of the bullpen in 2012 and should give the Padres another left-handed bullpen option. For his career, he has been tough on lefties.
