This news is a little late here on the Chicken Friars site, but just in case you didn’t know, the Padres completed the Cory Burns trade on Thursday when they acquired Wilfredo Boscan from the Texas Rangers.

Burns was originally traded for a player to be named later, who eventually became Boscan.

Boscan was left out of the Rangers’ 40-man roster, and was left unprotected for the Rule 5 Draft, but since he wasn’t drafted, the Rangers agreed to send him to San Diego.

Since he wasn’t selected in the draft, Rule 5 rules will not apply to Boscan or the Padres.

Boscan,22, went 7-5 with a 3.75 ERAand 89 strikeouts against 28 walks over 34 games, nine starts for Double-A Frisco in the Rangers organization last season.

The Venezuelan has a career 38-44 record with a 4.00 ERA over parts of six Minor League seasons in the Rangers organization.
