Yesterday Corey Brock tweeted that Padres first baseman YonderAlonso had been offered the opportunity to play for Spain in the World Baseball Classic.
But as fast as Brock sent out that tweet, Alonso was even faster in declining the opportunity.
Here is how it all went down:
@FollowThePadres I have decided to be with my team the Padres in spring training. And be ready to go for opening day.

Honestly, I’m happy Alonso did not take Spain up on their offer. He needs to be with his teammates and get ready for a long season. The Padres should be his first priority not Spain.
I also thought Alonso was Cuban not Spaniard.
Let us know in the comment box if Alonso made the right choice to not play in the WBC.
