Teams Show Interest In Venable, Hundley and Cabrera

I am not sure what your thoughts are about Lee Hacksaw Hamilton, the San Diego sports talk radio host at the Mighty XX 1090 am. Sometimes he can be a little nutty with his sports information and other times he is dead on.

But today (Wednesday) on twitter Hacksaw says he has confirmation that other ball clubs have approached the Padres about trades for Will Venable, Nick Hundley and Everth Cabrera.

Check out the tweet below:

Of the three, who would you like to see get traded? and who would you like to see stay? Let us know in the comments box below.

Keep E-Cab, dump Hundley & I’m tired of Wil Venable in RF.

Agreed, but we’re kind of low on catchers since Grandal’s ordeal. We should re-sign Yorvit Torrealba to a one year then trade Hundley.

I wouldn’t be opposed to having Jon Baker start the first 50 games, with a backup. He’s a vet! They have to deal Hundley. If Grandal is indeed going to be the catcher of the future, Nick deserves the right to be a starter again in the bigs. Somebody will want him.

Keep Cabrera, he has speed and the defensive abilities that are actually valuable for us when our MI is in flux. Venable is a smart player and works well platooning in right with Denorfia, so I would say keep him as well unless we are getting a solid corner OF in return. Hundley is realy the only one who is expendable, once Grandal is back. If Hundley performs like he did last year, then it’s better to have just Baker and Eddy Rodriguez (we’d have to purchase his contract again though). For that reason, I say we need to keep Hundley for now and hope he does well in the first 50 games until Grandal is back, and then trade him then.

I could go either way on Cabrera. If they believe he can cut down on his K’s, then I say keep him. But if they are comfortable with Forsythe, Gyorko, and Amarista as the top backup, then I say trade Cabby for pitching help.

Hundley might be needed with Grandal out, but as stickman0287 alluded to, if he plays like he did last year, Baker and Rodriguez once per week would not be awful until Yaz-man comes back.

As for Venable, I say trade him and give “Deno” a full-time shot in Right with Amarista filling in every once and a while for platoon purposes.

Trade Hundley and Cabrera to Washington for Mike Morse, who is the odd man out now with the signing of Denard Span to play CF (Werth in LF, Harper in RF). Though it would mean all three starting outfielders would be right handed, but he could spell Alonso at 1B too. Kid has a huge bat, well he is 30, but has big boy power.
