2012 just keeps getting better for Chase Headley. Headley won the 2012 Gold Glove, the first of his career.
Headley has always been regarded as a solid defender, but he turned in his best season in the field as well. Headley turned in a sparkling .976 fielding percentage to lead all National League 3rd baseman. Headley also posted a 5.0 UZR, in advanced defensive metrics. Anyway you break it down, Headley emerged as one of the best 3rd baseman in the game of baseball today.
It will be interesting to see how Headley’s RBI title and Gold Glove will affect contract negotiations. Headley is eligible for arbitration this offseason and could be a possible extension candidate.
