Throwdown Thursday – Week 25

Every Thursday, we at Chicken Friars will pick the two best Padres performers over the past week and analyze what they accomplished. Then we will leave it up to you, the fans, to decide who earned the week’s Throwdown Thursday’s honor.

Yonder Alonso continues to pad his trophy case with Throwdown Thursday awards after garnering his sixth Throwdown Thursday award by defeating teammate Chase Headley.

Alonso secured the one and only vote he needed to win the Week 24 Throwdown Thursday competition.

The only person who voted for Alonso thought the first baseman’s .444 average with one home run and seven RBI, on top of a .667 slugging percentage and three runs scored were good enough to warrant a vote. Alonso also racked up four hits in a game last week against the Colorado Rockies, one of those hits was for a walk-off win.

Though Alonso had terrific numbers last week, he failed to produce to land on the Week 25 Throwdown Thursday ballot. This week’s Throwdown Thursday competition features a pitcher who was on a Throwdown Thursday hiatus and the  other is a player making a string vase to be the starting shortstop in 2013.

Edinson Volquez –  Volquez dampened the Los Angeles Dodgers playoff hopes by wining his 11th game of the season while tossing seven scoreless innings, giving up six hits and  striking out four and issuing two walks. This was Volquez’s fourth scoreless outing of the season.

Everth Cabrera –  Cabrera is still trying to  make a bid to be the Padres starting shortstop in 2013. In doing so, Cabrera put together a .467 batting average (7 hits) with two runs scored and four stolen bases in five games this week.

Now Padres fans, vote in our poll for the Padres performer of the week.  Is it Volquez or Cabrera?

Sorry, there are no polls available at the moment.
