Fort Wayne Advances In Midwest League Playoffs

The Fort Wayne Tincaps, the Padres Low-A team advanced to the finals of the Midwest League playoffs by beating the Lansing Lugnuts, 9-6. The Tincaps will play the winner of the Lake County-Bowling Green series. The Tincaps won the best-of-three series 2-0.

Fort Wayne actually trailed 6-0, before scoring nine unanswered runs. Trailing 6-0, the Tincaps got on the board with a couple of runs. The Tincaps tied the game at 6, with a four-run seventh inning. Left fielder Lee Orr was the catalyst, leading off the inning with a solo home run. Orr went 3-5 on the day. The Tincaps also scored on a bases-loaded walk by Jeremy Baltz, and an RBI single by Duanel Jones.

Shortstop Jace Peterson had the go-ahead hit, a single to right field that scored Orr. Orr also had an RBI double in the 9th to put the game away.

Matthew Wisler, who had a great year for the Tincaps, got roughed up in this one. He allowed 6 runs in just 3 2/3 innings of work. The bullpen was stellar, however, as they posted 5 1/3 shutout innings. Matthew Stites picked up the save for the Tincaps. The Tincaps will advance to the championship series for the second consecutive year.
