Padres Pound Braves To Win Series

Where would the Padres be without Eric Stults? Stults put together another solid start, allowing just one unearned run in six innings of work. San Diego’s offense put the game away late, and the Padres emerged with an easy 8-2 win over Atlanta. The Padres have won 9 of their last 10 games, and won the series against one of the best teams in the National League.

The Padres jumped out to a lead in the fourth, scoring two runs. Logan Forsythe doubled in a run, and Cameron Maybin drove in a run with a ground out.

San Diego scored two more runs in the fifth, chasing Braves starter Tommy Hanson from the game. Chase Headley delivered with a two-run single. Headley has 30 RBI’s in August, becoming just the eighth Padre to drive in 30 runs in a single month. Headley has a team-high 82 RBI’s on the year.

The Padres put the game away in the eighth inning, scoring four runs. Chris Denorfia came through with a two-run pinch-hit single , and Yonder Alonso and Yasmani Grandal each had RBI singles.

Stults improved his record to 5-2 with San Diego. He also lowered his ERA to a sparkling 2.43 ERA.
