Ohlendorf, Padres Pounded In Cincinnati

The Padres won the first game of the series against the streaking Reds, but the firepower of Cincinnati was too much to overcome, as the Padres dropped the next three games. The Reds beat San Diego 9-4, to win the series.

The Reds jumped all over Padres starter Ross Ohlendorf  in the 2nd inning, scoring six runs. Ohlendorf could not escape the second inning, and gave up six runs, while recording just five outs. Ohlendorf’s record dropped to 3-2.

The Padres got on the board in the fourth inning when catcher Eddy Rodriguez stroked his first career hit — a 416 foot bomb to left. The hit gave the Padres their first run of the game, and will provide the minor-league journeyman with a memory he will never forget. San Diego added two more runs in the inning, courtesy of a two-run single by Chase Headley.

The Reds lead was cut to 6-4 in the fourth inning when Cameron Maybin connected on a solo homer, his sixth of the year. The momentum was short-lived, as the Reds came back with two runs in their half of the fourth, to put the game out of reach.

Cincinnati has won 13 of 14, and their offensive firepower was on display in the series. The Padres will return home Friday, to open a three-game series with the New York Mets.
