The Padres series in Miami started off with promise, as they cruised to an easy win on Friday night. The Padres have lost the last two games, including Sunday’s series finale. Marlins outfielder Justin Ruggiano had the walk-off single in the 10th inning for Miami.

The Padres took a 2-0 lead, scoring single runs in both the 3rd and 4th innings. Mark Kotsay drove in a run with a double, and Clayton Richard had a sacrifice fly.

Richard held the Marlins scoreless for five innings, but things fell apart for the Padres in the 6th, when Miami scored four times. Richard allowed two hits in the 6th, and the Padres brought in Dale Thayer to get out of the jam. Thayer allowed his two inherited runners to score, and the Marlins took the lead on a two-run triple by Donnie Murphy — who came into the game hitting .130.

The Padres tied the game in the 8th, when Miami native Yonder Alonso socked his fifth homer of the year. Alonso clearly enjoyed playing in Miami, going 5-for-13, with a homer and five RBI’s in the series.

The Marlins won the game in the 10th, after Jose Reyes led the inning off with a double. After an intentional walk to Carlos Lee, Ruggiano had the game-winning single off of Padres reliever Brad Brach. Former Padre reliever Ryan Webb got the win in relief for the Marlins.
