The Padres continued to add pitching depth to an organization ravaged by injuries, this time signing RHP Ross Ohlendorf. Ohlendorf was pitching with AAA Pawtucket, a Red Sox affiliate, where he compiled a 4-3 record, with a 4.61 ERA in 10 starts. Ohlendorf opted out of his contract with the Sox, and will pitch out of the pen for the Friars.

Ohlendorf has had some success at the Major League level, winning 11 games, with a 3.92 ERA for Pittsburgh in 2009. He had a terrible 1-10 record in 2010, albeit with a respectable 4.07 ERA. He bottomed out in 2011, putting up an ugly 8.15 ERA in 38.2 innings for the Bucs.

Back in 2008, Ohlendorf was part of the package that landed the Yankees former Padre Xavier Nady. Ohlendorf was drafted by the Diamondbacks in the 4th round of the 2004 draft.
