Padres vs Brewers Game Recaps: Ryan Braun Sets Petco Park Record With Three Homers

So much for the Marine Layer.  So much for the distant fences.  Ryan Bruan doesn’t care about Petco Park’s ability

One of

to stifle offense.  He hit three home runs last night, something no other player has done in the park’s non year history, and powered the Brewers to an 8-3 victory.

The first home run came in the fourth inning.  It was an opposite field solo shot to give the Brewers the early lead.  Milwaukee would score two more unearned runs in the inning after an error by Orlando Hudson kept the inning alive.  In the fifth inning, Braun hit his second home run.  This was was a two-run shot off a Joe Wieland curveball.  Finally, Braun blasted his third home run of the night in the seventh inning against Ernesto Frieri.  It was a historic night in which the Padres were on the wrong side of history.

Braun came close to hitting a fourth home run in the game in the ninth, but settled for a two-run triple instead.

The Padres actually had the early lead as Cameron Maybin stole second and was driven home by Yonder Alonso in the second inning.  Then, in the third, after Joe Wieland collected his first Major League hit and the Padres got runners to second and third with no one out, the Padres couldn’t pad their lead.

Jason Bartlett‘s double in the fourth inning pushed across a second run for San Diego, and Bartlett would later ground into a double play in the sixth for the Padres third and final run.

Rookie Joe Wieland took his fourth loss on the season.  He pitched five innings, gave up five hits, and allowed five runs (three earned).  He did strike out eight in the game, but it wasn’t enough.

San Diego is now 7-17 on the season.  Edinson Volquez will take on Shaun Marcum at 7:05 PT tonight.
