John Baker Acquired From The Marlins

The Padres announced a move today with suspect timing.  The day I publish my analysis on the Padres catching situation, they go and trade for a back-up catcher nowhere near my list.  Granted my list focused on free agents rather than potential trades, but still.

The Padres sent Wade LeBlanc to Miami today for catcher John Baker.  A move necessitated by Nick Hundley‘s inability to play a full season, and the need for offense from the left side of the plate.

More on this trade to come, but for now, check out this analysis from some other sites:

Corey Brock breaks it down here.

Bill Center of the San Diego Union Tribune talks about the implications here.

Mike Axisa of MLB Trade Rumors covers the swap here.

Of course, be sure to check back here.  I’m sure to have some analysis in the very near future.
