Vote Cameron Maybin for the 2012 Defensive P.O.Y. GIBBY Award

After his first season in San Diego where he was regarded as arguably the Padres best player, Cameron Maybin is up for a 2011 GIBBY (Greatest in Baseball Yearly) Award.  The only Padre nominee in any category, Maybin is in the running for the Defensive Player of the Year GIBBY.  Although there were many low-lights to the 2011 season for the Padres, Maybin dazzled us fans with some great catches and showed glimpses of why he was such a highly touted prospect out of High School in 2005.

After some rocky stints in Detroit and Florida, the 24 year old Maybin may have found himself a permanent home here in San Diego.  After one season it certainly seems that the Padres got the most out of the deal that sent Pitchers Ryan Webb and Edward Mujica to the Marlins in exchange for Maybin.

Hopefully Cameron can roam CF for years to come in San Diego and score some Gold Gloves.  It looks as if his best offensive years are still in front of him (2011 stats: .264 average, 9 HR’s, 24 2B’s, 8 3B’s, and 40 RBI’s to go with 40 SB’s), and it should be fun to watch him hone his offensive and defensive skill sets at Petco Park.

So show your support Friar fans and vote for Cameron for the DPOY GIBBY.

The link is right here and you can vote up to 25 times per category. The votes are counted Friday December 16th at 6 P.M. PST so don’t waste any time and watch to see who wins.
